Moving Forward

After the year that we’ve had, how do we move forward? In life, with ourselves, in relationships, with our families, our schools, our community, and our students.

Many of us were at home 24/7 teaching, taking care of kids, running meetings, sharing spaces together, doing laundry, making meals, cleaning the house, Zooming, all at once it seemed. The days were endless and everything seemed to run together with no break and no end in sight. All day, all the time can be a lot for one person, one family, one school, one district, one community.

We all spent so much time together that it did one of two things it tested our relationship and those relationships either broke with no repair or regained knowledge to learn more about each other and really strengthen our relationship. Most us did not spend so much time with the people in our lives that required us to listen, learn, and support them 24/7. Doing this either caused a relationship divide or a new perspective of foundational building of relationships.

So how can you move forward if nothing has changed?

You can't.

So why move forward after the year we've had?

Because doing so we find closure.

I had my first week off this week and it's only Thursday. I've been painting the house, doing touch ups, moving furniture, cleaning, and vacuuming some days until 8:00 at night and getting up early to start every day. All of this was not my idea but my wife's idea. If it was me I would have left it alone thinking nothing of it.

As I finished painting the downstairs, moved furniture back, rearranged and hung new things, cleaned, and got rid of some old stuff my wife said, “thank you for the change, it feels like a fresh start.”

Some are struggling internally or externally and some with both. We all have something or somethings we are dealing with from this past year and can't seem to move forward that's because something needs to change. You need a fresh start.

Drop everything for just a moment and think about what you need or need to do to move forward. It doesn't have to be big. It can be as small as painting the house. Rearranging furniture. Taking a different route to work. Changing up your routine. Reading a book. Stopping to pray for the first time.

Moving forward may require you to rebuild your foundation to change your outlook and get a fresh start. It won't be easy but it will be worth it because we can't relive the past year nor do we want to. Find a person or people that will help you move forward in a different direction for change. Who knows it might be the fresh paint you need to color your life again.

Let's build something together to move forward and change things for a fresh start that is much needed if not for you for someone or people that you love that need you.

Let’s Roll!
